Extensive energy & carbon modelling to meet strict targets, with dedicated washroom MV, classroom comfort cooling and acoustic measures, plus heat-recovery, natural-ventilation strategy and a biosolar roof for NZCiO.

We modelled energy and carbon to lock in the project targets, knowing success depended on washroom mechanical ventilation, comfort cooling in classrooms and specific acoustic provisions.

  • Heat recovery:
    • Recover heat from the classroom cooling plant to generate DHW for the kitchen.
    • Recover heat from all extract air, including the kitchen, via specialist AHUs suitable for commercial kitchen extract.
  • Natural ventilation:
    • Building is naturally ventilated to meet the DfE’s comfort criteria, with comfort-cooled teaching spaces as required.
    • Openable windows to all classrooms, even where active cooling is provided.
  • Biosolar roof:
    • Vegetated roof lowers surface temperatures, improving PV efficiency.
    • PV generation sized to offset annual energy use and achieve NZCiO.
